commission structure

Portraits are painted from life using the Sight size approach, This historic approach used requires a certain amount of space and light and so it is beneficial to both the sitter and the artist for the commission to take place in the studio.

For posthumous portraits, it is possible to work from selected appropriate photographs.

Portraits are typically painted life size, or a little under. A traditional ‘head study’ portrait measuries 50cm width x 60cm height

Commissions are not limited to portraiture. Jack also paints still lives, landscapes, religious, imaginative and group figure paintings. If you have a particular project in mind please get in touch to discuss your ideas fully.

Having agreed the details of the project a contract will be issued setting out responsibilities and terms including the payment schedule. This is summarised below:

Payment Schedule

A non-refundable deposit*, for a third of the total payment, is paid upfront. This allows for materials and set-up costs.

A second payment, of a third of the total payment, is taken midway through the commission on request. The commissioner is asked to confirm they are happy with the pose, and the general direction the painting is taking. The painting is then brought to a conclusion. This allows for you to request significant changes or to cancel the project at this stage etc.

The final payment, of the remaining third, is taken upon completion and delivery of the painting.

Framing is not included and is left to client discretion.

*unless the artist is unable to start the commission.
